The Kumon Northfield Study Centre opened in May 2013 and supports children in the local area and surrounding areas in the south of Birmingham. The centre, run by Instructor Alina Loi and her team of Class Assistants, helps children to grow in confidence and truly fulfil their potential. Children of all ages and abilities are welcome to start their Kumon journey at the Northfield centre. There is a designated area for supported work with our younger students, before eventually moving to the independent study area. Classes run from upstairs in the multiuse Pastoral Centre where there is free parking. Study of the Kumon Maths and English Programmes help each child develop self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher. At Kumon, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work. These skills will support children to easily grasp new topics in school and approach examinations such as SATs, GCSEs and their 11+ exam in the most effective and efficient ways.
