The centre has been opened since the beginning of 2012. Kumon is suitable for children of all ages and abilities. Currently, students at the centre range in age from four to 18 years old. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident learners through individualised, advanced study. Many Fenham students study both maths and English, although some just concentrate on one subject. Although the majority of students live in the Fenham area, many travel from areas such as West Denton, Elswick and Westerhope, and other surrounding areas. Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.
