Our Pointe Class is designed for dancers aged 12+ who are in the grade 5 ballet class who have demonstrated strong technical ability, control and progression in their ballet training. Students are carefully assessed by our teachers in both their regular ballet classes and pre-pointe training to ensure they are physically ready and strong enough to begin pointe work safely. This class focuses on building solid foundations, starting with essential exercises at the barre such as rises, strengthening and alignment work. As students develop confidence, strength and technique, they will gradually progress onto more advanced pointe exercises and combinations. Safety and correct technique are at the heart of this class, with a strong emphasis on developing strength, control and artistry to support each dancer's progression onto pointe.

Ballet is a classical style of dance originating in the fifteenth century. It has since become a widespread and highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary of French terminology. Classical ballets such as Swan Lake or the Nutcracker and globally renowned. It is a fabulous place to develop musicality and performance quality. In our classes we build strong fundamental ballet technique as we work towards BATD examinations and performances. Ballets foundation and techniques are also used in many other dance genres.

The Dance Syllabus for the 2027 Hastings Musical Festival Dance Section will be available on 1st September on playandperform and by clicking below. We are doing the same system this year, as previous years. All dancers will be dropped off before their class into the waiting area. Please do not leave any children in this room until the festival chaperone is there. They can be collected at the end of the adjudicating ( unless they need to quick change then they can be collected from the waiting area after they have danced). Performing in the Festival offers the opportunity to get up on a real stage in front of an audience and see how it feels. Entrants also receive detailed verbal and written feedback about their performance and tips on how to improve. If you would like to know more about entering pupils in a particular Section, please contact the Section Secretary who would be delighted to help. If you would like to contribute your ideas to the Festival we would be happy to hear from you. It is 30mins long and should be taken in addition to one of our recreational dance classes that come either before or after this class. This is a great way for your child to try some extra dance styles and prepare them for potentially joining our competition programme in the future!
