Joyful Dolphin Swim - Young Child Swimming 3-4yrs +

By Joyful Dolphin Swim Cambridge

We move seamlessly from toddler swimming into young child activities, preparing children for independent swimming. Combined with play there is more focus on stroke styles and specific water skills. We feel it is very beneficial to continue to share classes with parent or carer to ensure a smooth transition finding just the right time to “let go”. This is an individual journey based on trust and communication. On completing their time at Joyful Dolphin, we aim for children to be confident and ready to move on to independent classes. Communication – Development of the relationship between parent/carer - child and teacher - child Physical benefits – strengthening muscles, supporting balance and alignment of the body and developing co ordination Psychological benefits – Growth in confidence, interaction and the development of trust Cognitive benefits – Development of language, brain maturation, learning to follow instruction and social skills Specific swimming skills – the development of correct body position, swimming strokes and breathing techniques Multi- sensory experience – Particularly lovely to have close touch still with their parent and to feel the qualities of water Fun trans

Joyful Dolphin Swim - Younger Babies Swim

By Joyful Dolphin Swim Cambridge

The benefits of early swimming are numerous, and helping babies along the way to swimming can be one of the parents’ most enjoyable experiences. Infants make an easy transition from their early swimming reflexes to conscious movements if you swim with them, showing the child how to find their buoyancy in the water with minimal support. The emphasis is on encouraging free movement in water that is conducive to swimming at such a time when your baby is both physically and emotionally ready. However, it is not a case of just playing in the water with your baby; it is a carefully designed progression of skills gleaned from many years of experience with a wide range of babies in on our courses. Parental closeness and involvement - it is the interaction of parents with their babies in the water underlies all the short-term and long-term benefits. Focus on mutual enjoyment - the more that babies take pleasure in early swimming, the more delighted are their parents and the babies thrive. It may help you overcome an intrinsic fear of water. Building on your confidence and sense of freedom - It may also help you recover a playfulness you have not experienced since childhood. Going swimming h

Joyful Dolphin Swim - Toddler Swimming 2-3 years

By Joyful Dolphin Swim Cambridge

The principle of “water parenting” continues into the more active toddler years. Communication, interaction and fun are the stepping stone to water confidence and learning to swim. Every child learns in their own unique style as long as they feel safe and can move forward at their own pace. Covering a certain distance is not our primary aim, we watch for exploration of buoyancy in water, delight in the underwater world and the gentle movement to independence. Then we can begin to introduce more formal stroke techniques whilst still emphasising both fun and relaxation. With the right support every child has the desire to move and enjoy new experiences. What joy it is to turn to Mum or Dad for encouragement and hugs and to celebrate swimming together. Whether your toddler has been swimming since they were a baby or are new to the classes we will work with you individually, recognising different temperaments and preferences. As toddlers gain strength and flexibility a whole new world opens up to be enjoyed together with you and with their new friends.
