Set on a working family farm, our campsite offers the perfect opportunity to slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience the beauty of the countryside. Having grown up helping on my parents’ campsite during the 1970s and 1980s, I’ve worked hard to recreate that same relaxed, fun, and welcoming atmosphere here. Children have plenty of room to play games, explore, and make new friends. As a working farm, we’re proud of how we care for our animals and are always happy to chat about farm life. Children are welcome to help feed the animals in the mornings, making their stay even more memorable. Family groups and groups of friends are warmly welcomed. The Birsay Hostel and Campsite is set in the rural northwest corner of the Orkney Mainland, close to the village of Birsay. Nearby are spectacular coastline with quiet beaches and several of Orkney’s famous neolithic sites, the dramatic cliffs of Marwick Head, RSPB reserves , Earl’s Palace, Barony Mill , Kirbuster Farm Museum and the tidal Island of the Brough of Birsay. My children like staying here as there is a big playpark and football pitch next door. Birsay village is a 10-15 minute walk and has the Palace ruins to explore, a small shop and the beach, at low tide you can also head over to the Broch of Birsay (keep an eye on the tide!) or you can go on a coastal walk to the whalebone. Would return and would recommend." - 20 April 2021.
